Opportunities like this do not come along often and we are now looking for a specialist Seawater Manager, to join the team and play a key part in the development of our offshore salmon farming operations, a first for New Zealand.

As a member of the Aquaculture leadership team the Seawater Manager will contribute to the decision-making process, overall management, and strategy development of the aquaculture division.

The Seawater Manager is responsible for the overall operation of all on farm aquaculture activities from smolt entry in seawater through to the commencement of the harvest process.

Main requirements


The role, which reports to the Chief Operating Officer, includes taking full responsibility for the management of:

  • Manage and plan workloads
  • Leads by respect and engagement
  • Motivate and inspire team members
  • Ensure that there are robust and visual systems in place that deliver effective stock management outcomes with respect to efficient use of feed, fish survival and fish quality, particularly:
  • Ensure effective policies and procedures are in place that deliver reliable and predictable results for operational tasks.
  • Ensure effective fish management systems in place that detect deviations from the expected outcome and allow the business time to develop effective solutions
  • Develop operational improvements to reduce the overall cost of production
  • Establish and monitor key seawater performance indicators and use information to drive continuous improvement in farming operations
  • Develop and support a culture of continuous improvement and promote an environment of engagement around improvement ideas and suggestions

 

People Management
  • Ensure all sea farm team members are highly motivated and engaged with the business, aquaculture and company strategy and have the opportunities for input and improvements through a consultative leadership style.
  • Complete all HR processes in a timely and efficient manor
  • Ensure that all members of the sea farms team understand and apply H&S policies and initiatives
  • Ensure that all aquaculture operations and activities fully comply with any relevant legislation
To be selected for this role you will have a minimum of 5 years farming and 3 years people management experience and possess the following skills and knowledge:
  • Relevant Bachelor qualification, preferably in aquaculture
  • Detailed understanding of fish farming
  • Practical experience in salmon farming
  • Strong leadership and strategic planning ability
