Martec is a leading fish processing and aquaculture company in Central America. Based in Quepos, Costa Rica, Martec has over 30 years of operations as a wild fish exporter and since 2008 became a pioneer in the development of the off-shore cage culture of the Spotted Rose Snapper (Lutjanus Guttatus). Presently we have over 350 employees based in Puntarenas and Guanacaste.

Prior to our involvement, the business had been looking to recruit a Hatchery Manager for a number of weeks but had unfortunately not managed to fill the roles.

A considerable challenge was presented on this recruitment, by several limiting factors. Firstly the remote location location, but also the requirements for candidates to ideally have both industry experience and successful results from previous hatchery, as the appointee needs to manage several fish farms and an increase of operation operations.

A meeting with the CEO/CFO allowed us to take a full brief on each role and make a plan to fill in the role, match the candidates to the organisation – and to each other – and for them establish the operation team as quickly as possible.

A search assignment and prominent advertisement in our network and system attracted around 12 candidates onto our long-list with a shortlist of 4, and 1 appointment was made after a 3-stage interview process.
